Captain´s Log: The Arrival

Well folks I made it. We finally left Ann Arbor Monday Dec. 8th at 9:30pm and drove straight through, reaching Temascalcingo Wednesday around 10:30pm. Besides having 12 hours of torretial rain (Indianapolis to Little Rock), a snow storm (Dallas to San Antonio) and a truck die on us (San Luis Potosi) we arrived.
Wow.

Captain's Log: Last Minute Adjustments

Bags are packed, money has been wired and yet another change of plans has taken place. As it turns out, our original two truck caravan has doubled into a four truck convoy. In order to enter Mexico, our trucks must be legalized (a process which takes even longer and cost more in swelling Customs lines). I must be honest, the legalization process is rather fuzzy, I wish it were simple as just marrying a US car and waiting for the Green Card, but most church aisles don't accommodate F-150's. All I know is that a decent amount of money is needed to legalize a vehicle, which is determined by the make, model, year and the assumed worth, that's all I know. That being said, the original two truck have been legalized for some time now and we have received word that two amigos of the convoy wish to join up. Fine by me, the more the merrier (especially when talking about Mexican nationals!) The only hiccup is that their vehicle legalization paperwork won't be ready until Monday December 8th. This presents a problem as we were scheduled to leave in 7 hours. Worst case scenario, I get to see my mother for another day and have another day and a half to get ready, after all who's really that excited about a 45+ hour car ride? So before the papers have time to dry, we will be Mexico bound on December 8th.

Captain's Log: T-Minus 4 days

Many people ask me "why in tarnation are you going to New Mexico?" "Actually that would be Old Mexico" I sometimes correct . . . still, most don't get it. Folks, it's official, Saturday December 6th, 2008. I, Tucker Myers will be embarking on a most epic journey to the near-geographical center of Mexico (yes the country, and yes that would be Old Mexico) For those of you not fortunate enough (or too fortunate [we shall see]) to accompany me, DO NOT FRET! Armed with two suitcases, my camera, my undying photographic prowess and a case of Pepto-Dismal I have agreed to a travel blog based on my travels. "But I don't really care about your travels Tucker." is usually what I hear about this point and reply "Then stop reading!" just hear me out! I'm in no way trying to force religion on you or even trying to sell you a burro; I am no missionary and have no burro . . . yet. It's simple, I go to Mexico (Old Mexico, now you're getting it) and write about it, you have the option to read about my exploits in my 'Captain's Log'. You may be asking if a Captain's Log is really necessary since I am neither a captain nor going on a voyage. Quite frankly I am going on a voyage, a land voyage, but a voyage nonetheless, a 45+ hour odyssey spanning six American and seven Mexican states. Call it what you like, de todos modos it's a really long truck ride that doesn't stop at the border. As for the Captain thing, it's really a personal decision, I just didn't like the sound of Community College Graduated Driver's Log (which I think is my title,) so I took the liberty of making myself a Captain and with a few minor adjustments and an oil change we'll be on the way Saturday. Stay tuned!
